How the Seven Positions Fit Together
Purpose, then Path
The first rune names the core of it; the second is a mirror, showing whether the life you are actually living points that way. When those two disagree, that disagreement is the reading, and the remaining five are about closing the distance.
Develop and Eliminate
The third names what to cultivate, the fourth what is getting in the way — and the fourth is usually about a habit rather than a circumstance. Read them as a pair: most people find the thing to drop is what makes room for the thing to grow.
Guidance is other people
The fifth position is external: who or what can carry part of this. It is the one readers skim, and it is often the most practical stone on the table, because it names help that is already within reach rather than a quality you must build alone.
Advantages and Stage
The sixth describes what arrives when you live closer to this purpose; the seventh says where you are on the road right now. Read Stage first if the reading feels overwhelming — it usually says you are further along than the other six suggest.

Getting a Useful Answer
Purpose is not a job title
A seven rune spread will not hand you a profession. What it describes is a direction: what you are for, what you keep returning to, what the work would have to contain to be worth doing. The job is downstream of that, and the career guidance spread is the place for it.
Ask once, then leave it
This is not a spread to draw weekly. A direction does not change on that timescale, and rereading it every few days turns a long answer into background noise. Once, then again when something in your life has actually turned over.
Write it down
Seven positions is more than anyone holds in their head. Keep the reading somewhere you will find it in six months — the Stage rune in particular only means something when you have an earlier one to compare it with.

Runes That Change the Reading
ᛃ Jera in Purpose
Jera is the turning year and the harvest that comes in its own time. In the Purpose position it describes a life whose meaning accumulates rather than arrives — and it quietly warns against expecting the Stage rune to say nearly there.
ᛁ Isa in Develop
Isa is ice and stillness. As a quality to cultivate it reads as patience and the ability to stop — unwelcome advice for someone asking about purpose, and frequently the correct advice for exactly that person.
ᛗ Mannaz and ᚷ Gebo in Guidance
Mannaz is humankind, the self among others; Gebo is the gift and the exchange. Either in the fifth position points at a specific person rather than a general support, and usually at one who is already nearby.
Reversed runes
A reversed rune — merkstave — means the same force blocked, delayed or turned inward rather than its opposite. In the Path position it commonly marks a life that is aimed correctly but stalled. Every rune, both ways up, is in the Elder Futhark guide.
