How a Birth Rune Profile Is Built
Primary — the core archetype
The rune of the runic half-month you were born in, and the one to read first and longest. It describes the shape of you rather than a phase you are going through, which is why the profile is worth returning to years apart.
Secondary — how it shows up
The second rune is not a separate portrait. Read it as a lens on the first: the same core nature expressed cautiously or headlong, privately or in public. Most of the recognisable detail of a profile lives here.
Tertiary — the undercurrents
The supporting runes come from your birth hour and, if you gave it, your name. They are tools and tendencies rather than the centre — but when one of them repeats a rune already in the profile, that doubling is a life theme worth taking seriously.
The aetts tell you the arena
The 24 runes fall into three groups of eight. Where your profile clusters says which arena your life is chiefly played out in — the material, the disruptive and transformative, or the social and self-directed. An empty aett usually marks the ground you develop later, and on purpose.

Calculate once, read often
A birth profile does not change, which makes it the opposite of the rest of this site. There is nothing to redraw. Save it, and come back when you need reminding what you are built out of rather than what is happening this week.
It is not a forecast
Nothing here predicts events, health or misfortune, and a birth rune does not decide anything about your life. What it offers is a description you can agree or argue with — and the arguing is often where the value is.
The reading is honest about weaknesses
Each profile names three or four shadow tendencies, each one the excess or deficit of a rune actually in your chart rather than a generic flaw. They are framed as tendencies to watch, not verdicts, and each is paired with a strength that can work on it.

Where Birth Runes Come From
Four traditions, not one
The solar half-month calendar, the birth-hour wheel, date numerology and name transliteration. They are not competing claims about a single true rune — each looks at a different thing, which is why using them together produces a profile rather than a label. How old is this?
Older than it is often made to sound. The runic half-month calendar as used today is a modern reconstruction, assembled in the twentieth century from medieval calendar staves and the rune poems. The runes are ancient; this particular way of assigning them to birth dates is not, and we would rather say so.
Birth runes and zodiac signs

If the profile does not fit
Check the date you entered first, and the half-month boundary if you were born within a day or two of one. After that, sit with the Secondary rune — profiles that feel wrong at the core are frequently right at the lens, and the recognition arrives from there.
