Rune Reading for 2026:
Seven Runes for the Year Ahead

One Elder Futhark rune for each of six areas of life — love, career, finances, health, leisure and self-improvement — and a seventh for the key lesson of the year.

No question to type — the seven positions are the question. You draw all seven stones yourself, upright or reversed as they fall. A reading to take once, write down and come back to at the halfway point. Free, and no account.

Draw Your Seven Runes

No question needed for this one — the seven positions are the question. Press the button and draw your stones.

How it works: type your question and press "Ask Runes". A circle of face-down rune stones will appear — tap it to shuffle, then tap seven stones to draw them yourself. Your reading is revealed with a personal interpretation right below on this page.

How to Read Seven Areas at Once

Six areas and a lesson

Love, career, finances, health, leisure and self-improvement each get a rune, and the seventh names the key lesson running through the year. Read the six first and the seventh last — it usually turns out to be the thread the others were already describing.

Read across, not down

The useful part of a seven-area reading is the pattern. Two or three warm runes clustered in the outward areas and something cold in health or self-improvement is a familiar and honest shape, and it says more than any single stone in the row.

An empty-looking area is information

A quiet rune in a position you care about is not bad news. It often means that area is not where the year’s movement is, which is worth knowing in January rather than discovering in August.

The Lesson rune is not a warning

The seventh position names what the year is likely to teach, which is different from what it will do to you. Even the harder runes here tend to read as a subject rather than a sentence.

Getting the Most From It

No question to type

This is the one reading here that asks nothing of you before the draw. The seven positions are fixed, so there is nothing to word and nothing to get wrong — press the button and take your stones. If you do have a specific question, it belongs in a spread built to receive one.

Draw it once, then leave it

Seven runes for twelve months is not a reading to repeat monthly. Any time of year works — New Year is convenient, a birthday often lands harder. Write it down and go back to it at the halfway point; the value is in comparing what you read then with what has actually happened.

For the shorter horizon

A year is a long lens. For the next few weeks the three rune reading is the better scale, and for the mood of the current season the seasonal energy spread divides the year into four rather than into areas of life.

For the rune that is yours

This reading changes with each draw. The rune that belongs to you permanently comes from your date of birth — the birthday rune reading calculates it, and the two make a natural pair: one for who you are, one for where the year is going.

Runes That Change the Reading

ᛃ Jera anywhere

Jera is the turning year itself — the harvest that comes in its own season and not before. In a year reading it is almost a signature rune: whichever area it lands in is the one that will reward patience rather than pushing.

ᛈ Perthro as the Lesson

Perthro is the dice cup: chance, the hidden, what has not been dealt yet. As the seventh rune it says the year’s lesson is about living with what you cannot see coming, which is uncomfortable and frequently accurate.

ᚠ Fehu in Finances

Fehu is movable wealth — cattle, income, what can be gained and also spent. In the finances position it points at flow rather than accumulation, and it reads differently from ᛟ Othala, which is what is kept.

Reversed runes

A reversed rune — merkstave — means the same force blocked, delayed or turned inward rather than its opposite. Across a whole year it often marks the area that starts slowly and moves later. Every rune, both ways up, is in the Elder Futhark guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 2026 rune reading free?
Yes, completely. No account, no email, no paywall between the draw and the interpretation, and no limit on how often you return. All 22 rune spreads here work the same way.
Do I have to type a question?
No — this reading does not take one. The seven positions are set in advance, so you press Ask Runes and go straight to drawing. Every other spread here is built around a question you bring; this one is built around the year.
Do I draw the seven runes myself?
Yes. Press Ask Runes and a circle of face-down stones appears. Tap the circle to shuffle, then tap seven stones one at a time. Nothing is chosen for you, and each comes up upright or reversed as it falls.
Does it predict what will happen to me in 2026?
It describes the character of each area of the year rather than forecasting events, and we would rather be clear about the difference. What you get is a set of angles to watch and act on — which is more use over twelve months than a prediction would be.
When is the best time to draw a year reading?
Whenever you like. New Year is traditional; a birthday often lands harder because it marks your own year rather than the calendar’s. A reading drawn mid-year simply covers the months that remain.
Should I draw it again during the year?
Once is enough, then revisit what you wrote. If something substantial changes, a shorter spread answers better than redrawing the whole year — the three rune reading for a situation with a history, or the transition spread if the change is already underway.
What if an area comes up difficult?
Read it beside the Lesson rune, which usually reframes it. A hard rune in one of six areas is an ordinary reading, not a bad year — and the areas do not carry equal weight for everyone.
Can I do a year reading for someone else?
You can, though the reading speaks to whoever is asking. As a gift, a birth rune profile works better: it needs only a date and it does not go out of date.
Which runes does the reading use?
The Elder Futhark: 24 runes in three ættir, the oldest and best documented runic alphabet, used across northern Europe from roughly 150 to 800 CE. All of them, upright and reversed, are in the rune meanings guide.
